On Saturday, September 8th, 2018, we hosted the inaugural GPL Challenge competition at Harker Upper School (500 Saratoga Ave, San Jose, CA 95129). This competition provided female students with the opportunity to solve creative problems and demonstrate their algorithmic programming skills in a supportive environment for both beginning and experienced programmers, while the keynote speech and panel discussion gave the participants insight into the current state of the field from a female perspective. Over 140 girls from 40 middle/high schools in the Bay Area attended the GPL Challenge Event and 105 of them competed in the morning contest.
